Hudson United Title’s Joseph Belger to Be Honored By YMCA of Greater Bergen County

WAYNE, NJ – Hudson United Title is proud to announce that their director of New Jersey operations, Joseph Belger, will be honored with the Special Achievement Award for his excellence in sport officiating by the YMCA of Greater Bergen County at their 51st Sports Award Banquet, which will be held on Tuesday, November 22, 2016 at The Venetian in Garfield, New Jersey.

“I’m humbled and grateful to receive this award and be honored alongside such respected individuals,” said Belger. “It’s an impressive list of people who have won, and I’m proud of the exemplary work they have accomplished in their communities,” said Belger.

Before becoming a sports officiator, Belger was a high school baseball coach at River Dell High School in Oradell, New Jersey. After he stopped, Belger wanted to continue his involvement with sports. He began officiating high school baseball, and then followed the recommendations of other officials to become certified in officiating high school basketball, football, and soccer. His commitment has stayed strong after 25 years.

By focusing on youth development, social responsibility, and healthy living, the YMCA of Greater Bergen County works to ensure that citizens of any background have the chance to learn and grow.

The banquet will honor the best in the county’s professional, college, high school, and amateur athletes, as well as coaches and other adults who have offered commendable service to youths. The gala will recognize 30 individuals, including Patrick J. Fletcher, who will be honored with the YMCA Person of the Year Award; Kurt Hommen, who will be given the Thomas L. Della Torre Special Achievement Award; and Brian Beddoe, who will receive the Richard Poor Service to the Community Award.

“Joe Belger is one of the most respected athletic officials in New Jersey,” said Glenn MacAfee, interim CEO for the YMCA of Greater Bergen County.  “The most impressive thing about him is that he’s not only superb in officiating one sport, but multiple sports, and his skills, knowledge, and experience have made him a true credit to his profession.”
